Learn how to reinstall or transfer DaySmart desktop software to a new computer, including how to backup your database, work with support for setup, and reconnect networked computers.

Written by Angel Horowitz

📝 Overview

This article walks you through reinstalling DaySmart desktop software on your current computer or transferring it to a new one. Whether you are performing a reinstall due to a technical issue or moving to a new computer, our support team is available to assist you through the process.

⛔️ Disclaimer: DaySmart Desktop does not support installations on virtual machines or computers with multiple SQL Server setups, including Parallels, Virtual Box, VMware, AWS, or Microsoft Azure. DaySmart Desktop also does not support Mac computers. To ensure full support, we recommend using a dedicated computer at your business that only runs your DaySmart software.

🔍 Step 1: Find Your Software Version

Learn how to locate your current software version number before reinstalling or transferring.

  1. Open the Help pull-down menu and select About, if possible.

  2. Your version number will be displayed in the upper section with the program logo. The major version number is determined by the first number shown.

🧠 Example: 13.XX.XX would be version number 13.

The following versions are currently available on our website:

  • Version 13

💾 Step 2: BackUp Your Database

Learn how to create a database backup on your current computer before transferring to a new one.

⚠️ Please Note: Complete this step on your current computer before moving to the new one.

⛔️ Disclaimer: The backup must be saved from the server computer to an external location such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Client computers display data from the server but do not hold their own copy of the database. If the server computer crashes or becomes inaccessible, there is no way to recover your data unless a backup was saved to an external location or a cloud-based storage service. Do not rely on the client computer to hold a backup.

  1. Open the software on the server computer and go to File > Backup and Restore > Backup Database.

  2. Save the backup to an external storage device such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Select a location you can easily find again on the device.

  3. Remove the device safely from the computer.

  4. Close the software on all computers in your network.

🛠️ Step 3: Set Up the New Computer

Next, you are ready to install the software on your computer. For assistance with this step, please reach out to our support team. Be sure to install the same version that was running on the old computer unless you are updating to a newer version — refer to Step 1 if you are unsure of your version number.

💡Pro Tip:

  • If you are installing an updated version, any client computers in your network will need to be updated to the new version as well.

  • If you need an older version of the software, please reach out to our support team for assistance.

Our support team will walk you through the following during your session:

  • Uninstalling the current version of the software if reinstalling on the same computer

  • Downloading the correct version from your product's downloads page:

  • Completing the installation wizard and registering the software with your serial number

  • Restoring your database backup if the database is not automatically found after installation

🗑️ Step 4: Deactivate the Old Computer

Learn how to deactivate and uninstall the software from your previous computer once the new setup is complete.

💡Pro Tip: If our support team assisted with your transfer or reinstall, this step may have already been completed during your session.

  1. On the old computer, go to Help > Deactivate Software and follow the steps to deactivate.

  2. Once deactivated, uninstall the program from Control Panel on your computer.

🌐 Step 5: Reconnect Network Computers

Learn how to reconnect client computers and online services to the new server.

💡Pro Tip: This step only applies if you are running a network version of the software or use Online Booking, Remote Access, or Messaging services.

Reconnecting Client Computers

If you are running a network version, each client computer in your network will need to be directed toward the new server.

  1. Go to File > Database Settings > Connection Settings > Edit Connection Settings.

  2. Select This is an additional computer (client) and press Continue.

  3. Select Manual Setup.

  4. Enter the new server name.

  5. Press Continue.

Reconnecting Online Services

  • Remote Access — Go to Online Services > Remote Access Setup. The program should establish a connection, at which point your Remote Access is connected.

  • Online Booking — Go to Online Services > Online Booking Setup. The program should establish a connection, at which point your Online Booking is connected.

  • Messaging Service — Go to Messaging & Marketing > Messaging Service Setup. The program should establish a connection, at which point your Messaging Service is connected.

🔁 Transferring to a New Client Computer

Learn how to replace a client workstation in an existing network without affecting the server.

💡Pro Tip:

  • Follow these steps only if you are replacing a client (station or extra) computer in a network — not the server.

  • If you're already familiar with the install process, you can skip contacting support and just download the update-only file from our website to install it yourself. Client computers don't need SQL Server installed like a server does.

  • If you need an older version of the software, please reach out to our support team for assistance.

  1. Make sure the program is closed on the old client computer.

  2. For assistance installing the software on the new client computer, please reach out to our support team. Be sure to install the same version currently running on the server — refer to Step 1 if you are unsure of your version number.

  3. Once installed, open the program and register the software with your serial number.

  4. Go to File > Database Settings > Connection Settings > Edit Connection Settings. Select This is an additional computer (client) and press Continue. Select Manual Setup and type the server name to connect to the server computer.

    • 💡Pro Tip: The server name can be found on any working networked computer under Database Settings > Connection Settings.

  5. Close the software on the new computer.

  6. Open the software on the old computer. Go to Help > Deactivate [Program Name] and follow the steps to deactivate. Once deactivated, uninstall the program from Control Panel.
